Generic Game Instructions

Instructions for connecting generic Gamespy games to the 333networks masterserver.

Many GameSpy-generation games follow the same principles as Unreal Tournament 1999. Therefore, in the examples below, we use Unreal Tournament as a reference. The approach for Unreal Tournament should also work for the game which you are trying to connect to 333networks. Replacing Unreal Tournament with (Game Title) in the examples below may help you resolve this.

As always, if this does not work for you, please visit our discord server, where we will try to help you set up the game properly.

Configuration file location

Early Gamespy generation games stored the configuration file on the following location:

C:\(Game Title)\System\(Game Title).ini

If that folder/file does not exist, click here for more information on known configuration locations. Once you located the configuration file, proceed with the instructions below.

For server administrators who host a game server.

Server Side Configuration

Before making changes to your configuration, make sure to turn off your gameserver. Once you have located the configuration file, open it with a text editor of choice and find the [Engine.GameEngine] section. In this section, you replace the old GameSpy entry (red) with one or more of the 333networks-affiliated masterserver entries (green):

[Engine.GameEngine]
CacheSizeMegs=4
UseSound=True
ServerActors=IpDrv.UdpBeacon
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerQuery
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master0.gamespy.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=utmaster.epicgames.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.333networks.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.newbiesplayground.net MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.errorist.eu MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=UWeb.WebServer
ServerPackages=SoldierSkins
ServerPackages=Botpack

Remove the line containing master0.gamespy.com. GameSpy ceased their services in 2014 and the domain no longer resolves to a masterserver. Older configurations may also hold entries for Telefragged, which may be removed as well.

Insert one or more new entries with new masterserver addresses consisting of a domain name and a beacon port. We added example lines above with the following masterserver entries:

It is also possible to add masterservers that are not listed in the example. See our frequently asked questions for help on selecting a masterserver.

Restart your gameserver. The first time that you restart the server, close and re-open your configuration file to see if the changes persisted. It may take up to 15 minutes before your gameserver shows up on master.333networks.com or the other masterserver of choice.

(!) Always type the configuration changes manually and check for mistakes. Some people addressed that adding more than three masterserver entries could cause a server to crash. If you are experiencing issues with multiple masterservers, reduce the number of entries to see if this solves the issue.

Congratulations! You're all set up now! If this does not work for you, please visit our discord server, where we will try to help you set up the game properly.
